Productivity is defined and redefined

Productivity Redefined is a topic that collaborates with the question, “How to be productive amidst crisis and difficult times?” The term productivity is usually used or defined in terms of accomplishing something related to work, job, or business. “Redefining” the meaning of productivity is not changing its meaning. It simply means enhancing or extending the basic meaning.

Denzel Washington’s statement fits to this topic. He said, “just because you’re doing a lot more doesn’t mean you are getting a lot more done. Do not confuse movement with progress.” In crisis and difficult situations, we can still make progress. We can still be productive. How to be productive?

Prayer and Intercession

Ephesians 3:16-17 says, “I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love.”

In this passage, Paul told the Ephesian believers that he is praying for them to have strength and power, to be rooted in love, and so that Christ may dwell in their hearts. Paul was in a prison cell when he wrote the book of Ephesians and able to pray for the believers while he is incarcerated.

While in prison, Paul was doing a productive activity. That is to pray for the believers. Be like Paul. Pray and intercede. Be productive.

Generosity

In Philippians 4:18, “I have received full payment and have more than enough. I am amply supplied, now that I have received from Epaphroditus the gifts you sent. They are a fragrant offering, an acceptable sacrifice, pleasing to God.”

Paul was telling the believers in Philippi that he is grateful for their gifts to him. These believers are generous by giving financial support to Paul and to his ministry.

Anything that you give for other people, in times of crisis, are “fragrant offering” to God and He is pleased. You do not have to be a millionaire to do charitable works. Small acts of kindness and generosity matter to God when done sincerely. Be productive. Be generous.

Relationship Building

In Ephesians 5:22, “Wives, submit yourself to your own husbands as you do to the Lord.” In the same chapter, verse 25, “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church.” Paul also mentioned in Ephesians 6:1, “Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.”

These Scripture passages are instructions for the family so that strong and healthy relationships are built. Every family should have a goal to strengthen and build a healthy relationship with one another.

Personal Development

It says in 2 Peter 3:18, “But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”

Productivity can also be defined in terms of growth in different aspect of our life. Most especially in the area of knowing more about Jesus and establishing a deeper connection with Him. And we can do a lot more for our personal growth. Read books, learn new skills, and the list goes on.

In times of crisis and in our limited movements, perhaps God is telling us to “repair” something in our lives that are broken. Is there something wrong with your habits and lifestyle? Maybe, you need to focus on less in order to be more productive to the things that are more important.

How to be productive in times of crisis? Be prayerful, be generous, be loving, and take time to grow.
